Carter R. Stratton was born and raised on the banks of the Penobscott River in the shadow of Mt. Katahdin.
As an industrial electrician for the East Millinocket Paper Mill, Carter was exposed to the copper wire he uses in all his trees. Inspired by a love of bonsai trees, but with a distinct lack of talent for keeping them alive over the winter, Carter created what he affectionately called "Copper Bonsai Trees" using waste copper from work. These trees were guaranteed not to die!
For more than 30 years, Carter has been honing his craft by studying the mathematics of bonsai sculpting as well as hiking the trails of Baxter State Park and Acadia National Park every summer to be inspired by the natural beauty of the Maine woods.
Presented here is a collection of CopperTree Sculptures designed to remind you of the majestic strength and peaceful solitude of Maine's coast, mountains, forests and water ways. We hope you enjoy them!
