North, South, East and West. Earth, Air, Fire and Water. Four elements come together to make up the fabric of the world cloth. Four of the major trees found in Maine join together in this sculpture; Oak, Maple, Birch and Evergreen. Four Corners is drilled into a varnished slice of maple.
On the North face of the Penobscott River, sheer faces of granite thrust up from the ground providing a firm bank for the rushing waters. Sturdy trees send roots into tiny cracks in the rocks and cling to the face.
Where do the best ideas come from? There must be a spark of creativity to light the way from mind to world. Birch Blaze has an intricate weave of roots that securely surround a clear oil lamp globe. Birch base has been flame burnished to bring out the varied hues of copper.
Many traditions surround the evergreen tree. Tall and majestic, this classic evergreen tree shows many intricate boughs and stands on sculpted roots. .
In the middle of an ice-cold Maine river as it rushes to the sea during the Spring thaw, a wind sculpted evergreen tree reaches skyward. The lone inhabitant of this island clings tenaciously to the slippery rock, sending roots down deep into the bedrock for support.
